This year water festival called off

In Cambodia, there are several festive periods and biggest of it is national water festival in which all twenty provinces in the kingdom compete in boat racing in popular Tonle Bassac river in phnom penh. Last year celebration of water festival was something people of Cambodia would forget in hurry, a tragedy (stampede) befall the entire nation that claimed lives of youths during the three days of festivity and when the news of cancellation came I was thinking this could be reason for canceling this year event.

According to reliable sources, this year water festival has been off in order for government to provide aid to displaced victims of terrible flood across countryside in the kingdom. Its said that over 200 victims was killed by flood and many rendered homeless and they definitely need a shelter and government is seriously considering taking a step to make sure citizenry get a measure help.

Another reason is water level on tonle bassac river is way too high and if government play ignorance on this fact to allow festival preparation go on, it may endanger lives and property and this would be a good thing to see happening again in the kingdom and I think its a good decision not to go on.

Personally, I was seriously planning on going to have a real feel of the events this year because I had never been the riverfront as its hard of people to actually have a free movement around. Capital city get really busy during this period.
